fortran-compiler software package provides virtual package provided by gfortran, you can install in your Debian 8 (Jessie) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install fortran-compiler
fortran-compiler is installed in your system.
Make ensure the fortran-compiler package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep fortran-compiler*
You will get with fortran-compiler package name, version, architecture and description in a table
