emacsen software package provides virtual package provided by emacs24, xemacs21-mule, emacs24-lucid, xemacs21-mule-canna-wnn, xemacs21-nomule, emacs24-nox, you can install in your Debian 8 (Jessie) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install emacsen
emacsen is installed in your system.
Make ensure the emacsen package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep emacsen*
You will get with emacsen package name, version, architecture and description in a table
